I truly am amazed at how fast time flies. It has been a LONG while since I posted. There are letters/emails that I need to respond to that are long overdue. Sigh. Life.
It has gotten away from me somehow.
It seems like Ethan and I just finished school and here I am searching online for the best deals on school books. Just amazing how fast this summer has flown by. I was pleasantly surprised to find a few books I had purchased last year are for this school year. :-) That was a nice discovery.
Ethan and his friend from down the street are attending a VBS this week. Hubby and I take this time to sit at the library and look out the HUGE windows that overlook their pond. I search for books online and make out school lists. Hubby works on his sermon for Sunday. It has been relaxing.
Last night was kind a neat. Since the library closes at 8:00pm and we dont have to pick the kids up till 8:30 we either take a walk or drive around. It was raining off and on last night so we decided to take a drive. We were talking about Church and the things that God was doing and things that would be neat to see and we ended up driving through the park. It is a big park that goes a long way back with soccer fields and a bike path. We have never been to the "back 40" before and so hubby thought he would see what was back there. It starts raining pretty hard at this time and we come upon a patio shelter with table and sitting at one of the table is a man and woman. They had that "got caught in the rain" look. We stopped to ask them if they wanted a ride back to their car. They accepted. Come to find out she had attended the Church we now go to about a half hour away. Funny that we had JUST been talking about the Church. As we dropped them off at their car they mentioned that they were without kids tonight so they are going to DQ on a date and if we wanted to we could meet up with them after we picked up Ethan and his friend from VBS. We did meet up with them and talked for almost an hour. We also found out that we have other friends in common as well. It was a very interesting evening. One that I am not sure what to think of. It was interesting and fun! LOL

Where, oh, where did summer go? Even though we are taking Ethan and his friends to VBS tonight I know that it is the last of summer. The flowers bloomed, we mowed the lawn, we watched fireworks, been to the ball game, and now...?...now we are looking through Ethan's school books getting prepared for a new school year. Sigh. It was too short! We had a beautiful and not too hot summer and it was just SO lovely! I have enjoyed it immensely.
Right now the back door is open letting in a breeze and I can hear the trees whispering. It is soothing. Thank you Lord for the beauty!
I had ordered most of Ethan's school books and we have been getting them in the mail the last few days. It is a little exciting to see the new books. A little overwhelming too! I will have to teach him all of this stuff! LOL All said and done though, I really do love it.

Remodeling
So I am in the middle of remodeling the kitchen and bath. Yes...at the same time. LOL For some reason I do life like that. I think I do that so if I get bored I can go do something else for awhile. (like I don't have enough to do with laundry, dishes, teaching, cooking, cleaning...LOL)
It is fun to picture what they could and hopefully look like one day. Fresh, clean and bright.
The kitchen wallpaper is down. Looks better already. The wallpaper was SO busy. The top part had birdhouses all over it and the lower part was stripped! They were darker colors as well so it made the kitchen look small and cluttered. The next thing I need to do is finish washing the glue off the walls. I will then tackle the tiles that run the full length under the cupboards. I wouldn't mind them being there but some of them are broken and the grout is discolored. It would look better to take them down and paint that area as well.
We have been given wood for our kitchen flooring!! Thanks to some amazing friends! It will look WONDERFUL. I am SO excited about that. We don't have enough to go into the family room yet but that OK for now.

The bathroom will be fun, I think. :-) The carpet is already halfway torn loose. We found that the cement underneath is sealed already so we just need to get the glue off and paint it. The rest of the bathroom is mostly painting...walls, trim, medicine cabinet, sink cabinet, ceiling. I would also like to put up a different mirror as the other ones are WAY outdated. That will happen before I paint. The counter top and sink will have to wait.

A White Christmas in Colorado
We took a train from South Bend, In to Grand Junction, CO to have Christmas with family. It was a neat trip. Thanks to my family with help for train fare!
Hubby took some wonderful pictures of the train, tracks and tunnels on the way there. Thanks to Facebook we can share them with friends and family.
Ethan and I were very excited that "Dad" could come along. Ethan and I have taken the train four times before and Hubby couldn't come with as he had to work. This was his first train trip. He said he really enjoyed it!
So...after 32 hours on the train we got off in Grand Junction to be greeted by family! It was so nice to see them and hug them. Even Gramma came out in the cold to see us! Brave lady. It was a little hard to walk after being on the train for so long...sea legs "Train legs" I guess you would call it. The train is always swaying back and forth so you get used to it after so long and to get off and walk on earth that is still...LOL...doesnt feel quite right.
We had a wonderful two weeks in Colorado. Christmas was nice with a yummy ham and homemade rolls and cheesy mashed potatoes. The table was stretched to the max (eight leaves?) and sat 18(?) people! It was fun.
We had our evening gift exchange. We exchange names so that it is cheaper on us poor folks...I guess that would be all of us...LOL. It was alot of fun seeing who had whos name and what everyone got.
New Year's Eve was great too. We had a White elephant gift exchange which was a blast. Someone, not going to name any names, Christi, said we had to wear oven mitts to open up our gifts. That added an interesting factor! It was so fun seeing everyone else trying to open theirs, but when it came to me....well, the funny level went down. LOL Everyone else sure thought it was funny though!
A soup/chili cookoff was also one of the evenings big events. Everyone brought one or the other and after you taste test you had to vote for your favorite. My Dad does a good job with mixing up the pots and crockpots so we don't know whos is whos. I won this year with White Creamy Chicken Chili. I still think it was rigged so that the trophy would have to come all the way to Indiana with us! LOL
So we brought in 2009 with fun, good food, games and best of all FAMILY! It was great.

Moody
Moody... in a good way. It is snowing outside for the first time this year. Looks so beautiful. I love this time of year. Thanksgiving in a week and a half. Family and friends to be thankful for!
I have to admit...I am listening to Christmas music. I usually start at the beginning of October. LOL It is so peaceful right now. Sitting at the computer with the soft lamp light glowing, listening to Sarah McLachlan singing In the Bleak Mid-Winter , watching the snow out the back window, knowing Ethans asleep in his warm bed. Sigh...very comforting. Thank you Lord for you beauty and your peace.
What would it be like to live without the Lord? Without knowing his love and peace? Without that inner joy that wells up at times like this knowing it is because of him and his love for us? Life can sure be tough at times and the trials come, but right now it is so peaceful. I can have that security knowing that through it all he takes care of us and we can use those times to draw nearer to him. Thank you Lord!

Chicago!
Oh my! What a wonderful time we had! I couldn't have asked for it to be any better. Everything we did was super fun and relaxing. Wicked was amazing! The set was so visual and interesting. The acting and singing was out of this world. The story itself was a wonderful twist on the Oz story. I will have to read the book now!
The Shedd Aquarium was great. I got to see so many creatures that I have seen on the videos that Ethan and I have watched. I loved it! God sure does have a sense of humor...LOL. He also can think outside out little box! Some of those were so wonderful. We are going to make a point of taking Ethan when they get the Oceanarium part done. They are supposed to get dolphins and penguins. The Wild Reef was great too. It was a huge glass half dome of all sorts of sharks! We stood there for a long time just watching them swim past. One thing I noticed about many of the sharks and other fish in the aquarium were their swimming patterns. They would have their circuits they would swim over and over. It was funny to watch. One huge funny looking fish was so fast and his circuit was SMALL for his size. If fish could he would've gotten very dizzy! Haha.
We rode for the first time in a taxi. That was interesting. LOL We rode the bus from our hotel to the Magnificent Mile downtown. That was a first time for me to ride the public bus. Big city can be so interesting. The way it runs, the people who run it, the people who it is run for... if nothing else it is fun to watch. I wouldn't want to live there but visiting is fun!
Thank you to our loverly friends and family who helped make it possible for us to go and have such a good time.!!!

Chicago...Here We Come!

Dinner and Theatre...
I am so excited about the weekend. A whole two and a half days with my honey. Just bummin' around. I think we are going to the Cheesecake Factory! I love the one in Chicago because the atmosphere is wonderful. We are then headed to the theatre to see Wicked! I can hardly wait.
The last time we did anything like this was on our honeymoon eleven years ago. As wonderful as that was, how much more fun it is after years of loving each other and are now best friends. Awesome! I love to spend time with him and talk. He is so interesting to listen to and I end up learning something from him every time we talk. I love it. :-)
Aquarium...
I know some of this I already blogged about, but I guess I'm excited. In the last few years I have really taken to learning new things. I think some of the reasons are homeschooling and my honey talking about school and what he has learned, but the biggest reason would be lack of TV. We live in a town where you need cable TV in order to get any channels, but after we moved into this house a few years ago we just never got it. I do miss the Discovery Channel and TLC and Hal mark but I can now get alot of those on Netflix.
I have found so many videos at the libraries on sea creatures, Egypt, weather, Meerkats, and a ton of other things. We love watching those. I have learned SO much.
All this to say that museums and aquariums and zoos are on the top of the list for places I like to visit. The one in Denver is a wonderful one. If you ever get a chance to go it is worth your time. The zoo in Denver is nice too. I have yet to see the zoo in Chicago. I hear it is open year round. :-) Something to do this winter perhaps.
Before we go...
I always like to come back to a clean house. That is what I am doing today. I haven't cleaned for a few days and it shows. LOL I have the kitchen done so far but that leaves the rest of the house. Ugh! I guess I better get busy....
